Production Diary #4

On Thursday 3rd October i decided i would go to my local shopping center,Westway to visit WHSmith as it one of the most popular shops for books and magazines.
I wanted to visit this shop as i was guaranteed a variety of music magazine to choose from. I decided to only search through urban/R&B magazine to keep within the theme of my music magazine. I was hoping to get inspiration for ideas of how the magazine should be layout, colours, prices etc. Also wanting to see what artists were being featured within the magazines so i could also include these artists to be most up to date with what is on trend.

Even though there was a lot of music magazines available ranging from rock to classical music, there was only a small variety of R&B/urban magazine.
The magazines available showed a clear colour scheme and highlight that black&white plus hints of bold colours such as red, blue or yellow were very popular. Also a  close up mid shot of a current artist was key in all the magazines,as it would grabs the readers attention.
Flicking through a variety of magazines that seemed to be very urban and trendy which would go with the theme of my magazine. They were very photo based with little writing which was similar to the concept suggested for my magazine. I really admired the fashion in the magazine as it was very trendy with girls wearing boyish fashions such as oversize baseball shirts, chains and trainers but also showing very sexual images such as just a body suit or mesh clothing. Also portraying boys in very simple but stylish clothing such as a simple tee, designer jeans, snapback with the newest high tops.
Overall, even though there wasn't much variety of R&B/urban magazines to gain ideas from, this suggests that there is room in the market for my magazine to be a success and stand out from the rest.
