Progress 6

As shown in my audience feedback, to make my music magazine more successful it was key to change the layout and positioning slightly to make it appear more professional. Therefore for my Band Index, I have made sure that all artists name line up equally on both sides by adjusting the widths between the page numbers and artists. This has resulted in my Band Index look far more professional as it is far clearer to read than before as shown in the image. Similarly, I have adjusted the width between the page numbers and sell lines.

Shown in my feedback from both my peers and online survey, the box out text was not clear to read and didn't stand out. Therefore to overcome this problem, I simply changed the font colour from black to white as the text is now clear to read from the dark red box and additionally white is apart of my magazines colour scheme therefore will show the house style is continued throughout the magazine.Addtionally, I decided to add more text to the review so the box text would look less empty, 'as she hopes her lyrics will touch many of her fans as she knows everyone has lost someone close to heart' was simply added to the end of the review.
The image of the featured artist, HardBarzHarvey was enlarged and pulled to the center of the page. This was to highlight her importance and make more of a statement. I decided to still keep the pull quote on the page as by her looking up in the image suggests she is inspired by how tough she is. I have changed the colour of the pull quote from red to black as seen in the front cover and content page a lot of red is already featured in my magazine.

The most change and progress in my magazine this week has been in my content page as I was not fully pleased with the previous outcome. From my audience feedback from both my peers and online survey I have made many improvements to my content page. Firstly, I have added the social networking logos besides OnPoint's Facebook and Twitter page and also placing them in a dark red box as shown in my feedback the social networking was not clear to all readers and therefore by doing so will make my readers are clearly aware of the sites and continuing the house style by using a dark red box and white font.

The most dramatic change I have made to my content page is the layout of both the images and text. By receiving inspiration from other existing professional magazines, I decided to change my four sections into four columns with two columns on either side of the double page as this has made my content page look far more professional and clearer to read. This was easily done using tools in Indesign to create two columns. However, as the layout changed there was several empty spaces within the text of each section, to overcome this I added a description under each heading within the 'Regular' section which was recommended in my class feedback and also adding several more popular R&B artists to the band index by looking through artists onto my iTunes account.
Due to the change in text layout, I had to rearrange the positioning in the majority of my chosen images. Firstly,I decided to add a grey outline around my chosen images so they would clearly stand out against the white background. Also to make my images stand out, I create caption boxes at the bottom of each image using the shape tool in Indesign. As shown in the rest of my magazine, I have continue the house style by using a dark red box and black text. The images of both popular artists, Etta Bond and Yungen&Mikestar were decreased in size and moved to the left hand side of the double page as the images chosen were best suited as thumbnail pictures. Additionally, the image taken at Reading Festival was increased to take up the majority of the bottom half of the page as this is a very popular music festival and by Eminem headlining last year highlights that it is not the typical rock dominated festival.

Class Presentation and Feedback

Presenting my music magazine to the rest of the class allowed me to confidently sell my magazine and identify all the reasoning behind all the features of my magazine. This has resulted in me being more confident in my magazine being a high success in attracting my target audience.
I took this opportunity to ask my peers for verbal feedback as by receiving feedback from my target audience will allow to me identity the improvements needed for my magazine to make it the best it could be. My main concerns I decided to address to my peers were issues with my front cover and content page.
Improvements for my front covers suggested by my peers included:
- Change the style of fonts or show variation in fonts in the sell lines
- Have the text appear bigger in the button
- Too busy with the sell lines and takes away from the image
However, I received positive feedback that my picture and artist was clearly liked.

Improvements for my content page suggested by my peers included:
- Move the Macklemore image to the left slightly as it appears to close to the text
- Put a box/outline around the image of Georgia due to the white background
However, I received feedback that my font clearly stands out and is appropriate for my magazine.

I have taken all of the suggestions from my peers to improve my magazine. I have changed the layout of both my content page and front cover which has now resulted into the front cover looking less busy and the Macklemore image is now moved away from the text. Additionally, I have put a grey outline around the image of Georgia as peers suggested the image was not clear due to the white background. Similarly, I have changed the font and its size of the sell lines on my front cover which has made my image more clearly grab the readers attention but still stand out.
The feedback has clearly helped in improving my magazine as I am now completely confident with every page featured in my magazine as I believe they will all clearly demonstrate the genre of my magazine and attract my target audience successfully.

MoodBoard

I have done this moodboard using Adobe Premiere Pro to gather a lot of images to give a variety of ideas of what I want my music magazine to involve and inspire to become.

All the images chosen are meaningful for my magazine as they clearly portray the type of magazine I want my magazine to become and by including a backing track of Drake-Just hold on we're going home emphasis the type of genre my magazine is and would be something my target audience are likely to be listening to at the moment.
Firstly, the images shown of the various front covers of magazines highlight that these popular R&B magazines such as Vibe and XXL are what I hope my magazine can aspire to become as popular as. Additionally, the layout and colour schemes of these front covers are similar to what I would my magazine to include. The front covers chosen clearly demonstrate the genre of the magazine through the artists and body language used on the covers. Therefore these images are appropriate for my target audience as they would clearly attract the age group of 15 plus of both genders as the colour scheme and artist featured are popular of the young generation and the house styles used do not favour either gender.
The artists and albums included in my moodboard clearly demonstrate the famous R&B artists I would like to include throughout my magazines. Artists such as Jay Z,Nicki Minaj ,A$AP Rocky etc are famous artists worldwide and are very popular in the R&B industry at the moment therefore these artists will attract my target audience as shown in the Uses and Gratifications theory readers are likely to purchase magazines for identity and entertainment. These factors will be fulfilled by having inspiring role models they can identity themselves with and by including the latest news and gossip with these artists will entertain my readers.
The clothing, accessories and clothing brands shown are very trendy at the moment and stereotypical of the R&B genre such as snapbacks, chains, jerseys and Topshop are commonly wore by both famous R&B artists and my target audience. Therefore the clothing will clearly demonstrate the genre of my magazine to readers and shown in the Uses and Gratification theory will create social interaction and a sense of community to readers of the magazines as they are all likely to aspire and want to purchase the urban fashion featured in the magazine.
The images of the urban locations of graffiti filled streets and night life in concerts are appropriate for my target audience as due to their age and social class they are likely to be common with hanging around on the streets with their mates and enjoy going to festivals such as Wireless which feature a vast majority of R&B artists such as Kayne West and Drake heading line in 2014. These images demonstrate the stereotypical urban feel of images I would like demonstrate in my magazine as I believe this will be successful in attracting my target audience due to their similar interests and youthful age group.

Analysis of Data Results

Question 1:Question one made me discover that the majority of 33.3% read magazines once a week therefore by having my magazine a weekly issue it will likely to be purchased.

Question 2: Question two made me discover how often my target audience use social networking sites, and I found that the whole of my sample either visit them extremely often or very often, so I can apply this to my magazine in that instead of just being printed, my magazine can use a lot of social networks and these can be advertised on my magazine.

Question 3: I found out that my target audience use Facebook more than other social networking so i know to make my magazine a success i can create a Facebook page to advertise and promote my magazine. However as Twitter and Instagram only had one less vote of 12/24 it would also be important to involve these in my magazine to make my magazine the most accessible and well known.

Question 4: I was very surprised to find out that 79.2% of people asked didn't already read a music magazine. However i can understand there aren't already many magazine that will interest young people therefore by involving key concepts and using a lot of social networking my magazine will guarantee to be a success.

Question 5:Question five made me find out that the most popular music for my target audience was Pop with 13 out of 24 votes also closely followed behind with 9 out of 24 votes for R&B music. To involve this in my magazine i will use very popular artist that will encourage a wide range of audience to read however stick with my original R&B and urban feel.

Question 6:I found out that the majority of my target audience would like to see photoshoots and gossip in a magazine. I will very pleased with these results as i already had these concepts involved in my music magazine. I will include photoshoot with artist and using interviews with artists to find out all the gossip to encourage readers to want to find out more.

Question 7: Finding out from question seven that 62.5% of my target audience would pay between £2 and £2.50 for a magazine . This was more that i accepted as i thought the majority would pick a lower price of £1-£1.50, however this is pleasing as my magazine will be able to have a higher budget to involve a lot of concepts which will encourage readers the buy my magazine.

Question 8: Question eight results were surprising that 65.2% would be encouraged to purchase a magazine if it contained a free gift. I thought that free gifts would still be considered as childish and not be suitable for my target audience. On the other hand, 52.2% also thought that a famous artist featured would encouraged them to purchase a magazine.I was glad with these results as was already a key concept of mine to include a famous artist every issue.

Question 9:I found out that my target audience would prefer more photos than text in the magazine, with  16/24 people agreeing. I am pleased with these results as i already planned for my magazine to be very visual as knew my target audience would be more attracted to a lot of pictures rather than lengthy text which would look boring.

Question 10:Question ten made me discover that the majority of my target audience would not subscribe to a monthly music magazine. I was not surprised with these results as i personally wouldn't either so i am pleased as this shows that i have chosen the right type of people to aim my magazine at.

Overall, i am very pleased with my results because they gave me an exact indication as to how to develop my magazine and make it good according to my target audience.A lot of concepts already considered have been shown to be very popular so i am glad that this confirms i am aiming my magazine at the right people.
